This month marks one year of living in Virginia Beach. As many of you know, Virginia Beach was a calling. It made no sense but yet I knew I needed to move here. Even though is was completely unknown and I didn’t understand why, I followed the yearning and the inner knowing. That calling is part of The Hero’s Journey. I’ll be sharing more of my personal Hero’s Journey and specifically the calling to Virginia Beach on future episodes, so stay tuned for that.
But I first wanted to start the conversation around The Hero’s Journey and have someone come on and share their story and their understanding of it and I knew my dear friend and soul sister, Fatima Nakhjavanpur, would be that person.
Fatima lives in Dubai and she’s an international executive coach. As a result of her own journey she was able to get clear on her purpose. She works with leaders, executives and groups empowering and supporting them to cultivate courage.
We’ve been on each others paths during this transformative journey and I’m grateful for her coming on and sharing her own story. Our intention is that you are inspired and it empowers you to have the courage to answer the call of your heart.
“A hero is someone that has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself”.
-Joseph Campbell
On today’s episode we talk about that this Hero’s Journey is really more of a Spirit’s journey. It’s a journey to get to know you, connect to your essence and truth and build a life from that place.
Answering the call can be challenging as you meet the depths of you and the shadows. It can feel isolating at times and Fatima and I share why it’s essential to have support and learn to lean into yourself, to trust your own inner knowing and intuition during this time. And most importantly to trust the process.
What’s on the other side of that journey, of that adventure, is as Joseph Campbell says, bliss, we call it transformation.
“Follow your bliss and the Universe will open doors that were only walls”. –Joseph Campbell
We also discuss:
- After the journey completes why is essential to give back to the community, to the world, to have an impact and share all you’ve learned.
- The blessed unrest, that time before saying yes to the call.
- How answering the call and the adventure leads you to a sense of purpose
- The ordeal stage on The Hero’s Journey can be the most challenging and the most magical
- Releasing attachments that are in the way.
