Did you know we have on average 60,000 thoughts a day? You read that right. That’s a lot of thoughts!
Did you also know that our thoughts create our reality? Basically the thought produces a feeling. Our actions are based on those feelings and as a result creates a result.
The unfortunate truth is that many of these thoughts are limiting and can be negative. If we work with this statistic chances are your results/reality is not what you’d like it to be.
What is the current state of your current reality? What’s working? What’s not?
I encourage you to reflect on what’s not working and see if you can get curious around the thoughts you are feeling referent to what you’re experiencing.
Please, friend, be gentle with yourself. Our default is often beating yourself up and trying to power over the negativity. I’m saying, simply be curious and gentle with yourself.
The good news is it’s really easy to change what’s not working by simply changing our thoughts. Sure it takes practice and is a muscle to be strengthened but it can certainly be done.
Catch yourself when a negative thought comes up. Try it this week. Assess an area in your life where you seem to be getting the same result and you’ve tried many things and yet still the pattern is repeating. Get curious and see if you can get clear on the actual thought that is initiating the feelings and ultimate action toward that result.
Now that you’re aware of the thought take some time to think about how you can shift that thought. How can tweak it, change it, edit it to support you in getting the results you want.
I thought it would be helpful to share an example. I have a client that is experiencing turmoil in her family. There are many different personalities and what she’s perceiving is a lot of disharmony and chaos and honestly people not wanting to be together. Of course this is heartbreaking for her.
Her initial thought was ‘no one is getting along in my family’. Which led her to feel hopeless and the result was chaos and drama.
We worked together around this and she was clear the result she wanted was harmony and everyone coming together and enjoying each other’s company. We worked backwards from there and the feeling she would feel was peace. From this place her new thought was ‘everyone in the family accepts each other where they are’.
The key here is to keep it simple and the thought should engage a feeling that feels right in your body. With this client I can tell you that after several weeks of practicing this new thought things have started to shift. The good news is she now has this tool, as do you, to simply catch the limiting thought and change it.
I encourage you to practice this. Any time a thought comes in that doesn’t support the result you are wanting, notice it and gently find a new thought that will give you that feeling that you are longing for and ultimately will produce the result you are wanting.
It’s important to now shove the negative thoughts away, let them arise and get curious where it came from. It could be a thought from childhood, it may not even be your thought. The key is to get curious and understand it and simply release it by creating a new more aligned thought.
I know starting out with 60,000 thoughts a day can be overwhelming but the good news is we can actually witness these thought and have a little more control of them and ultimately produce a reality that is exactly what you want. That’s exciting right?!!
